Sad

I feel sad
’I used to love having stories at bedtime cuddling up with Dad while I could hear the sound of Mum doing the dishes downstairs. We used to sing some brilliant songs in the car on holiday too. That won't happen any more and it's terrible.’
Sam, 9

It's really normal to feel sad. You may feel sad about losing people or things, and things changing. You probably feel sad because your family will not be the same as it was before.

It is fine to feel sad, and you might feel it for quite a long time. Don't be too tough on yourself. Sadness is just a normal reaction to difficult things.

Talk magic
If you hold your feelings inside, they grow bigger and bigger and make you feel even more sad. Get the feelings out as soon as you can, by talking/crying with someone you feel close to.

Feeling better
It will help a lot to talk to someone about how you feel (Mum, Dad, a friend, anyone close). Crying is a really good way of washing some of the sadness out of you.

Remember, it’s not your fault.
