What will happen to me?

If your mum and dad have decided to split up, it means they won't be living in the same house anymore.

Remember they are still your parents and even if they do split up will want what is best for you.

Mum and Dad will work out which house will be your main home, and which days you will stay with the parent you don't live with (called contact time).

They will also decide if you need to change school.

What if Mum and Dad can't agree?
Sometimes they can't agree who you will live with, or which parent you will see and when. They can get help by talking to a mediator, who will assist Mum and Dad to talk together and try and find a way to solve the problem, while making sure your needs are taken into account. A lawyer can give them advice about their rights.

If Mum or Dad are upsetting you, try to be brave and tell them. Try to say what you want to happen.

Remember, it’s not your fault.
